Torsion spring replacement cost?
The cost of replacing a torsion spring on an average single car garage is $330*, if it only has one spring to begin with.
Replacement cost for torsion springs on an average size double car garage door is $390* to replace both springs.
How long will it take to replace your torsion springs?
In most cases the overall time on-site is about one hour.
How long do torsion springs last?
When I visit homes to replace torsion springs I am often asked how long springs last. This is actually a really tough question to answer because it assumes that all sectional door owners will encounter this problem.
As a general rule I find that of the springs that do break it tends to happen at around the 10 – 15 year range. But it is really important to note that the problem will not happen to all doors. So the estimated life of a torsion spring can only be measured against the ones that break.
Spring design has also been changing over the years. Many newer springs are designed to carry the stress load more evenly and are less susceptible to isolated fatigue along their length.
Why don’t they make them to last forever?
The torsion springs on you door do all the heavy lifting and live their life under tremendous stress.
While manufacturers would like to provide door springs that will never break they are caught between designing springs that support their intended function properly and the cost of a spring that is guaranteed never to break.
Like many things, it’s a balancing act between cost, purpose and dependability.
